Quick tips for a glamorous New Year's Eve

From a touch of faux fur to a splash of embellishment, welcome 2014 in style with our five easy steps

New Year's Eve is here and with it one of the biggest party nights of the year. Whether you are tripping the light fantastic or having a modest soirée with friends, the occasion demands a festive dose of razzle-dazzle. If you've neglected your party outfit in the Christmas rush or it requires some added oomph, just a few quick additions will have you glamorized with minimum time and hassle.

Go for faux

Faux fur has undoubtedly been the trim of the season and gives an outfit instant excitement. If you're looking to make a statement then newly launched label Shrimps is sure to delight.   The embellished clutch
If you're looking to update a pre-existing outfit then an embellished clutch will do just that. The offerings are endless - be it sequin, crystal, beaded or glitter, and an easy way to indulge in some festive glitz. Jimmy Choo never fails on the evening bag front and has the added allure of shoes to match. On the high street Coast have a suitably sparkly selection for under £100 and Boden's velvet and sequin clutch has been reduced to the very merry price of £14.70 in sale.

Eye-catching earrings

If you only wear one piece of sparkle then make it a pair of lavish drop earrings. Nothing says evening glam better than a cluster of crystals at your lobes so go for something big and bold for maximum impact.
For costume bling Accessorize has the best on high street and Miu Miu's brand of kitsch glam makes for wonderfully O.T.T gems. Pull hair back into a ponytail or sweep over to one side to best showcase your sparkle.

If there is one thing that will capitulate an outfit to red carpet readiness in two minutes flat, it's slipping on a decorative headpiece. Jennifer Behr's Swarovski headbands and Art Deco-inspired hair clips add Hollywood glamour to the plainest of outfits whilst Maison Michel's lace kitty ears spell minxy fun. Fancy hosiery

Perhaps the speediest way to inject some fun into an outfit is with a pair of patterned tights. Saint Laurent's crystal studded fishnets dazzled on the winter catwalk, demonstrating the worth of glamorous hosiery. Retailing at a cool £688 they are somewhat extravagant but thankfully, Topshop have an equally spangly pair for only £10.

Marks and Spencers, Falke and sockshop.co.uk have lace print, polka-dot and glitzy styles. Stick to black any stay clear of anything novelty.

If time is really against you then a quick slick of lipstick has transformative abilities. After dark hours call for red, be it hot coral or seductive berry. Nars' Satin Lip Pencil has remarkable lasting power and Giorgio Armani's Rouge Ecstasy range has a shade of red to suit all complexions. Finish with a spritz of heady scent et voilà!
