American Hustle! How Bradley Cooper Helped Obamacare Hit Its 7 Million Sign-up Goal

Were you one of the 7 million Americans who signed up for Obamacare? Well, you have Bradley Cooper to thank for that. (Sort of.)

According to Politico, back on Feb. 11 when Cooper was at the White House for the state dinner in honor of French President François Hollande, the "American Hustle" actor helped to brainstorm ideas about how to get the word out on the Affordable Care Act.

While meeting with one of President Barack Obama's senior advisors, Cooper suggested that they should consider doing something on "Between Two Ferns," the mock-interview series hosted by his friend and "Hangover" co-star Zach Galifianakis.

Apparently, using Funny or Die as a platform to raise awareness with a younger demographic had come up before, but Bradley's suggestion —  and the fact he had Zach on speed dial — helped push that idea through to the president.

"Zach Galifianakis and Bradley Cooper are going to do this for me?" a pleased Obama asked when he was approached with the idea.

Clearly, the rest is history.
After Obama's sit down with Galifianakis — which received over 15 million views — HealthCare.gov showed a 40 percent spike in traffic from the day before.

"Zach actually was pretty nervous," Obama revealed when he called into "On Air With Ryan Seacrest" last month. "It was funny to watch because this whole 'Between Two Ferns' schtick — which I wasn’t familiar with before my staff told me that we had been pitched to do this — his whole character is to go after the guest and I think he was looking around and seeing all these Secret Service guys with guns and thinking, 'I wonder what happens here if I cross the line?' But we had a great
time."

Obama's 15-year-old daughter, Malia, also approved.
"I was at the dinner table with the girls and I said, 'Well, today I did something with Zach, it’s called 'Two Ferns' I think?' Malia was so excited!" Obama exclaimed. "[Malia] had seen all the previous episodes, so I figured it was going to reach our target audience."
