Scarlett Quits Oxfam Over Sodastream

SCARLETT JOHANSSON has stepped down from her eight-year-long role as an Oxfam ambassador, after her job as the new spokesmodel for Sodastream saw her embroiled in a furore involving occupied territory on the West Bank - where the drinks-machine company has a factory.

Johansson's spokesman in a statement said that the Oscar-winning actress has "a fundamental difference of opinion" with Oxfam because it opposes all trade coming out of Israeli settlements, maintaining that they are illegal and deny Palestinian rights.

"Scarlett Johansson has respectfully decided to end her ambassador role with Oxfam after eight years," the statement said, The Telegraph reports. "She and Oxfam have a fundamental difference of opinion in regards to the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. She is very proud of her accomplishments and fundraising efforts during her tenure with Oxfam."

Johansson defended her decision to represent Sodastream earlier this week, despite Oxfam's comments that any trade coming from Israeli settlements were "illegal under international law".
"I adore Alexander Wang, Marchesa, Clover Canyon, Mary Katrantzou. And of course one day I would very much like to launch my own collection of prêt-à-porter". With colored hijab, that are by now part of her image, and with the grace she has in  mixing musical styles  (soul, folk and r’n’b) as if they were fabrics on which to project her pop rhymes, Yuna has successfully created a strong musical and visual identity.

Surprisingly, however, her look in part makes reference to her religion. "I am Muslim and at the age of 19, before even beginning my career as a musician, I began wearing a veil on my head. It was what I wanted to do and to this day I am convinced of my choice. It is not a commercial idea: it is part of me".

Her style has seduced Pharrell Williams, who proposed to produce the single Live Your Life, as well as famous producers behind the album  Nocturnal, out this month from Universal.
