"Calling Someone Fat On TV Should Be Illegal"

JENNIFER LAWRENCE says that "calling someone fat on television should be illegal". The actress - who has previously expressed her contempt for television shows like Joan Rivers' Fashion Police, accusing them of teaching young people "the wrong values" - asserts that criticising women's red-carpet outfits and body shapes needs to stop.

"If we're regulating cigarettes and sex and cuss words, because of the effect it has on our younger generation, why aren't we regulating things like calling people fat?" the Oscar-winner asked in an interview with American television veteran Barbara Walters, for her 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013 show.

"Why is humiliating people funny?" she went on. "I think that the media needs to take responsibility for the effect it has on our younger generation, on these girls that are watching these television shows and picking up how to talk and how to be cool. So all of a sudden being funny is making fun of a girl who's wearing an ugly dress."
